One of the first artist to be signed under Westlink Records owned by the late Mandla ’Mampintsha’ Maphulo has released a song to honour the musician who passed away last year. ZiMoja caught up with the Madanon after taking some time to mourn and restructure his life after losing Mampintsa who he regarded as his industry father.
REMEMBERING MAMPINTSHA
Madanon says life has not been easy since Mampintsha’s death. "I lost a father, a friend and a boss, he was full of life," he reflects. Born Ndumiso Ndimande, Madanon says there will never be another person like the late Mampintsha, he says after his death, he sort of went into a state of depression but will always remember his boss and lessons. "His love for music and his excellent work ethic, but mostly I will remember him by his sense of humour," he says. He says the BigNuz member taught him how to respect and love everything. He explains that he is going to honour his legacy by still supporting Mampintsha’s record label: Westink. "I will honour him by doing music with the Westink family and taking Gqom to the next level," he said.
NOT A NEWCOMER
Madanon is not new to the music industry, he is known for his unique blend of Afro House, Gqom, and Hip-Hop. The Durban-born, first captured South Africa with his infectious beats and catchy melodies in 2012. "Music has always been my passion. I started my journey at a young age, familiarising myself with the vibrant Durban music scene and I draw inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of my hometown and infuse it with modern sounds to create a fresh and dynamic musical experience."
NEW MUSIC
Now ready to shine again, the Makhelwane hitmaker has been secretly making music and he even wrote and dedicated a song for his former boss a track is called Ride along. The song will be part of a new album he is working on tittled Underrated. "I’m beyond excited to share my new music with the world. This album is a reflection of my journey so far, and I can’t wait for everyone to experience it," he said.
