BREAKING HER RECORD
Steyn is currently the record holder of the Comrades up-run and down-run distance. This is her third victory as she first won it in 2019 and she's the defending champion as last year's winner.
MEN'S CHAMPION
Piet Wiersma from the Netherlands emerged as the men's champion of the 2024 Comrades Marathon up run, finishing in 5 hours, 25 minutes, and 00 seconds. He narrowly missed breaking Leonid Shvetsov's up record from 2008 by just 21 seconds, making his time the second-fastest in the men's up run. His teammate Dan Moselakwe from the Nedbank Running Club secured the second position with a time of 5:25:45, while Ethiopian Degefa Lafebo finished third in 5:27:48. Wiersma beat out South Africa's Dan Moselakwe. The Dutchman is the first international runner to win the race since Zimbabwean Stephen Muzhingi in 2011. Wiersma was second in the down run in 2023 and finished the 85.9km up run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg. "It was a good race," he said.
