The Gauteng Department of Education will re-open late online admissions for Grades 1 and 8 on Wednesday. Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane announced this today during a media briefing where he urged parents to avoid selecting a school online and then approach the district to choose a different one.

Chiloane also reminded parents to submit complete and correct documentation when applying for schools for their children. "Late applications for school placements will be open from 11 December until 30 January 2025. The 19,000 that have not been placed will have another chance; however, they will have to make use of the schools available, not the ones they wish for," the MEC said.

DON'T LIE

Chiloane said parents should refrain from selecting certain schools online and then go to the district and form queues there. "Parents should not lie; forgetting that the online system captures their information. They shouldn't go to the district and form lines hoping for miracles demanding that their children be placed in a school of their choice." He added that when parents select five schools, the department assumes these are schools parents are satisfied with. "Once schools are selected the decision is non-negotiable. Appeals are only considered if pupils are placed in schools they didn't apply for. One other thing, I urge parents not to apply to schools they cannot afford, because if parents do not pay school fees, it could lead to the collapse of the institution," he said.
