Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has once again postponed the announcement of the provincial cabinet. The ANC provincial leadership confirmed that there have been continuous disagreements in negotiations between the party and the Democratic Alliance.
AT LOGGERHEADS
During a media briefing in Sandton this evening, ANC provincial secretary TK Nciza said the ANC and the DA are struggling to reach an agreement because of unreasonable demands. "From tomorrow, this really must proceed because it is delaying the people of Gauteng. It can't be fair; it's not right. The people of Gauteng have been waiting for their government," Nciza said, adding that they will proceed with the announcement tomorrow whether the DA is involved or not. "There will be a solution tomorrow; we'll be able to move forward, but from where we are, our Premier is ready to announce, and the ANC and the other parties are ready to hit the ground running."
DELAYS
Lesufi has yet to reveal his cabinet following the May 29 elections, making him the only premier to do so. Last week, he stated that consultations and negotiations had been finalised, and they are now awaiting President Cyril Ramaphosa's announcement of his cabinet before proceeding. Despite Ramaphosa's announcement of his cabinet last night, the provincial leadership is still not ready. "There is some link with the national discussions in establishing a GNU, and the political leadership of the ANC has requested that we wait for that because they have to conclude. As soon as the national leadership gives us the go-ahead, we'll be able to make that announcement," Lesufi said.
