Award-winning actor Ronnie Nyakale, who left Generations: The Legacy a few months ago, has changed gears and is now an e-hailing driver. The actor is famous for his role as Papa Action on Yizo Yizo.
ONE OF THE BEST ACTORS IN SA
Nyakale, who had appeared in international movies like Blood Diamonds, Machine Gun Preacher and Jerusalem, was let go from the soap opera, with publicist Carol Phalakatsela saying in a media statement that the actor, alongside another actor, Muzi Mthabela, had upcoming projects that and they would be on an indefinite hiatus. "We are sure they will only achieve success with the talent and dedication we have become accustomed to going ahead," Carol said at the time. It looks like the star who played the part of Cosmo on the soapie for more than ten years has not been getting acting gigs. Instead of joining the growing unemployed queue in the country or begging for donations, he has opted to being an e-hailing driver.
NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF
He has also been trending on social media after a passenger spotted his picture on the app, which showed him as a driver after he requested a ride. In a video shared on TikTok by user @iconickarabo, Nyakale can be seen driving in the popular e-hailing service. Someone commented after watching the video: This has sparked speculation about the actor's financial situation. Many are calling out the acting industry for not paying creatives enough. Some, however, are proud that Nyakale is making an honest living and is not ashamed. "He is doing much better than most of his peers, who would rather ask for donations on social media when the situation becomes hopeless," a social media user said. According to a close source, Nyakale had no choice but to become a driver because he was struggling to secure acting gigs. The source said he had to be honest with his reality because he has a family to feed. "Most of us knew that he was a Bolt driver; it's been a few months since he started and he knows how the industry works," the source added. When called for a comment, Nyakele said, "I have no comment, my brother."
