Four suspects shot and killed after allegedly robbing a businessman

Four alleged robbers have been fatally wounded in a shootout with police in Harding, north of KwaZulu Natal. The suspected criminals are alleged to have robbed a businessman who had just come from withdrawing a large amount of money from the bank.


WITHDRAWING LARGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY


It's alleged that the criminals escaped in two cars, a hatchback and a bakkie after the robbery. The four criminals, who escaped in a small car, were shot and killed while the two criminals who escaped in a bakkie are still being sought.


POLICE ACTED ON A TIP OFF


KZN Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said a multidisciplinary team comprising officers from the Hawks, K9 and other units received information about the robbery which was to be executed at a mall in Harding. "A businessman went into a bank inside the mall and withdrew an undisclosed amount of money and as he made his way out of the mall, he was accosted by the suspects who robbed him of the cash," Netshiunda said. He added that as the police approached the suspects who had just committed the robbery, the suspects opened fire. "Police returned fire and four suspects were fatally wounded during the shootout. Police are still chasing after more suspects who fled the scene. A firearm as well as the money which was robbed was found in possession of the suspects," he said. Netshiunda pleaded with anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects is urged to contact the nearest police station.
