Queen Khoisan SA (Cynthia Triagaard) of the Khoisan people passed away in a car accident while driving with King Khoisan SA, who has been hospitalised with serious injuries. The Hola Bon Renaissance Foundation has written a letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa requesting a state funeral.
STATE FUNERAL
In a letter to President Ramaphosa, the foundation requested that the state declare the death of the queen a state matter. "The queen's passing is a profound loss, not only to the Khoisan nation but to the entire South African community. As the indigenous people of this land, the Khoisan have played a pivotal role in shaping our country's history and identity. Granting a state funeral would be a fitting tribute to the queen's legacy and a significant step towards reconciliation and recognition of the Khoisan people's contributions to our nation's heritage. They went on to say the gesture would also serve as an acknowledgment of the historic injustices inflicted on the Khoisan people," the letter read.
THE CRASH
The accident happened near Colesburg in the Western Cape after their vehicle's tire burst, causing them to lose control. The King and Queen were returning from Tshwane to their home in Gqeberha. King Khoisan SA has been hospitalised since with serious injuries. This tragic accident happened amid an eviction order granted against King Khoisan SA and 19 others, who had been camping in a makeshift village at the Union Buildings to get their people recognised. This includes having their language be one of the 12 official languages in South Africa and for the Khoisan to be recognised as the first citizens of the country.
