The North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria heard that Senzo Meyiwa's cellphone data could not be retrieved because of a PIN. This was revealed by the state's eighth witness digital forensic investigator and former police investigator Elphus Mushwana.

CELLPHONE RECORDS

Mushwana was brought in by the state to decipher cellphone records of the seven people who were in the house when Meyiwa was murdered in October 2014. The court heard that during the murder investigations, Mushwana was given a bag including Meyiwa's phone. "I couldn't analyse the deceased and Zandi Khumalo's phone because one had a pin and the other had incompatible software," he said. Mushwana also told the court he was unable to reveal the contents of the data on the other three cellphones. "I don't know the contents thereof. I only downloaded the information. If I may explain further, there was a bit of a transition. There was a new investigating team established, hence in paragraph 10, I noted that the exhibits were handed over to somebody else- so I didn't have enough time to peruse the data," said Mushwana.

HE WAS ALREADY DEAD

Before wrapping up his testimony on Thursday, Meyiwa's best friend Tumelo Madlala was cross-examined by advocate Zandile Mshololo. Mshololo asked Madlala how long it took them to get Meyiwa to the hospital to which he responded that it did not take long. Madlala said: "I was not able to observe how long it took for us to take Senzo to the hospital. When the first gunshot was fired, I ran into a bedroom, and it didn't take long for us to act and take Senzo to the hospital when we discovered that he was shot," he added. Mshololo then read a death declaration from a nurse who attended Meyiwa at Botshelong Empilweni Private Hospital in Vosloorus. In the document, the nurse stated that the footballer was not breathing and had no pulse by the time he got to the hospital. Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Bongani Ntanzi, Mthobisi Ncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Sifisokuhle Ntuli are standing trial for Meyiwa's murder. They are facing various charges, including premeditated murder and attempted murder. All of the accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges and remain behind bars. The trial resumes on Monday.
