Former African National Congress (ANC) President Jacob Zuma, who was suspended by the ruling party in January, has been summoned to appear before a disciplinary hearing next week Tuesday. Zuma was suspended after he publicly endorsed the newly formed MK Party which he is currently leading.
The former president was charged with contravening the ANC's constitution. In a letter signed by the party's Policy and Political Education Administrator, Rachmat Lamera, Zuma is being summoned to Luthuli House. "Take notice that the disciplinary hearing of the charged member will take place on Tuesday at 10:00." When Zuma announced in December that he was not going to campaign for the ANC in the upcoming elections, secretary-general Fikile Mbalula was quoted saying that the party was not going to discipline him since he had already "disqualified" himself from the party.
Last year December, Zuma announced that he was going to campaign for the newly formed MK Party in the upcoming elections instead of the "ANC of Cyril Ramaphosa". He said at the time that the ruling party had lost its way and was no longer representing the interest of the people but those of the few minorities. Earlier today after the letter being summoned to Luthuli House was widely shared, Zuma's daughter Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla wrote on X, "The poison meant to kill President Zuma has already arrived in KZN. Please remember what this evil said. Bheki Cele: "We will bury Zuma? Bheki Mtolo: "Zuma will be in hospital before elections." Attempts to get a comment from the MK Party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela failed as his phone rang unanswered. He ignored Zimoja's WhatsApp and text messages.
