A former African National Congress (ANC) premier is being accused of rape.
The former Premier, who cannot be named at the moment, since he has not appeared in court is alleged to have committed the rapes in different hotels around Sandton and Pretoria when he was still in charge of the province. SAPS national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed the allegations to ZiMoja and that the case was opened with the Mondeor Police in the south of Johannesburg."Police can confirm that a case of rape was opened and registered today (Monday) at Mondeor police station. Due processes will follow. I can't confirm until he appears in court. Investigations will guide as to whether there is a case to answer to," she said. The woman accused the politician of sexually assaulting her between 2017 and 2019.
It is alleged that the woman who was a student at the time, claimed that she also fell pregnant with the former premier's baby in December 2019 and he allegedly gave her money and forced her to have an abortion. She had an abortion in January 2020. The victim added in her statement to the police that the politician stopped talking to her after the abortion and warned her not to tell anyone about their "affair" which would ruin his political career.
