He has travelled across the world. But one of his favourite places to live and visit is South Africa. This is because of the friendly people, its beauty and the diverse music. In his latest single titled Ungowami, Nigerian singer Mr. Dutch real Bright Ukpabi features Amapiano hitmaker Aymaos. He spends five minutes with ZiMoja talking about his love for music and his forward fashion sense.

Why did you decide to collaborate with Aymos in your latest release, Ungowami?

"It was an organic collaboration. Aymos sings sorely in isiZulu and has a very indigenous sound. I love the traditional and cultural aspects of his music. I wanted to merge that with my style to create something authentic. That interpretation of love made the song authentic," he says. "Also, our connection was authentic and not forced. I love to work with people that I connect with and not just have meaningless features."

What inspires our music and the themes you sing about?

"My music is inspired by my journey and where I am with everything in life. I sing about love, empowerment, encouragement, spirituality, and love," he says. "It’s for when you are down, up, happy, celebrating, and for any point in life. But most of it is always based on my personal experiences and those close to me."

When was your big break in the music industry?

"I got my big break when I did a song Antidote featuring Solidstar a few years ago." It wasn’t long before he went, he gained popularity. "Then I did a song with Burna Boy, and everything went viral. I appreciate everything because, without those features and the greatness of the song, I wouldn’t be here right now."

What was the one life-changing moment that set the tone for your career?

"Man! I have so many by the day one that stands out is the day I opened for Wizkid here in Johannesburg. It was a great crowd, and they loved the music," he says. "To open for a big star meant a lot to me. But I feel gifted being able to translate my feeling through my music."

Where do you get your great fashion sense?

"My style is very simple. I know people can’t help to look at me twice because it’s simple but unique. I can manipulate looks, styles, and cultures and bring them together ran one look."
