North West commercial radio station, YOU FM, has brought back former breakfast show host Malik "Pat Cash" Maloyi after he was dismissed in 2022 following alleged sexual misconduct towards a fellow employee at the station.
SEXUAL MISCONDUCT
YOU FM management announced in 2022 that they had taken a stand against Gender-Based Violence in all its forms by letting go of the Pat Cash. "You FM management views the allegations in a serious light, hence the termination of Mr. Maloyi's contract to safeguard the interest and reputation of You FM and its stakeholders In line with the commitment to ensure a safe light, hence the termination for all our staff members," their statement said at the time. "
TRIGGERED
According to an insider, the station has rehired the DJ and he will be doing the weekend breakfast show and a current affairs show in the evenings. "Yes, they brought him back. He is an exceptional DJ and people love him," the source says. The alleged victim who has since left the job says she has closed that chapter a long time ago. "I don't wish to revisit the trauma. If they really brought him back, then good luck to him.I want peace and not to be triggered or to think about him."
LET GO
The station said they terminated his contract with immediate effect following sexual misconduct allegations. An alleged female victim who does not wish to be named due to fear of being victimised told ZiMoja that she was relieved he would no longer be around to "sexualise her" and hated the way he looked at her and the comments he made. "Of course, I do not wish for anyone to lose their livelihood, but he was not okay. He made me and other women feel small and dirty. He was almost untouchable," she adds. The station said they terminated his contract with immediate effect. "The station took the decision to part ways with Mr. Maloyi following a series of serious allegations by some of the female employees at the station who spilled out onto both social and mainstream media." The statement went on to say that although the station expresses no opinion on the veracity of the allegations, their action seeks, however, to prioritise and manage the reputational risks and commercial interest of the station.
CLEARING HIS NAME
Called for comment, Pat Cash directed our questions to the station. The station's marketing manager, Mahlatse Modila, confirmed that Pat Cash will be back on air from Monday. "Malik "Pat Cash' Maloyi, rejoins the station to present a weekly business and lifestyle show between 7 and 9pm. He will also host the weekend breakfast slot between 6 and 10am,' Modila said. The station said they have a clear, no-tolerance policy against all forms of misconduct. " Our decision to relieve him of his duties was based on the station's need to give him time to deal with the allegations, without affecting the station's reputation and valued relationships with key stakeholders,' she added.
HE WAS NEVER FOUND GUILTY
Modila added that after the allegations were made, they launched an investigation and have not found records that Pat Cash has ever been proven guilty of any kind of misconduct. "This is what advised the decision to rehire him. The station remains vigilant on matters pertaining to abuse and wishes to make it clear that, if at any point new information comes to light or is provided to us, this will be acted upon appropriately and actively followed up,'
