Work, family fun and rest for DJ Tira this holiday season

DJ Tira, his wife Gugu and their children

The festive season is here and many South African entertainers are gearing up to travel all over the continent for gigs. With this year having been hectic for one of the busiest DJs in the country, both professionally and personally, the Durban-based musician and record label owner remains strong and on top of his game.

GOOD REST IS A MUST

DJ Tira said this time is crucial for him and finding a perfect balance to stay on top of his game as a DJ is not easy, but with over 20 years of experience in the industry, it is something he had to learn the hard way. "As simple as it sounds, the secret is planning and time management," he revealed. The Summers Days hitmaker said it is important to make time for yourself, family and work. According to DJ Tira this summer is dedicated to his family and work.

A WEEK DEDICATED TO FAMILY

Known for his throwing one of the biggest events on 31 December, Fact Durban Rock, Tira said before it gets crazy, he is going to spend time with his wife and kids first. "Throughout the year, my wife and I are both very busy with our work but we always make sure that we dedicate a week to spend as a family and do things that our kids want," he said. Tira said his kids love the beach, so they are going to do things like swimming and going to aquariums. "Anything water-related you can think of, my kids are obsessed with it," he laughed. He said he and his wife Gugu travel often and eat at hotels or restaurants and that during the time dedicated to family, they will be enjoying home-cooked meals. "When one gets to sit at home and spend time with family, it becomes a bonus, My wife knows I enjoy cooking and she also does the things in the kitchen," he added.

CHRISTMAS DAY IS STRICTLY FOR FAMILY

Tira said Christmas time is one of the best days of his life- because he gets to see and catch up with both immediate and extended family. He said it is always good to catch up with his clan because it is a reminder of how far he has come and is surrounded by pure love. "There is nothing as nice as listening to your uncles and aunts reminiscing- in our family it gets crazy," he said, adding that this year, their theme is all white and they dedicate different tasks to each member. "I will be this year's braai master," he gushed. DJ Tira who is fully booked until next year said, "Straight from lunch, I am going to work, until next year."
