Calling on God and the ancestors!

Prayers and cleansing for the N1 North and South Freeway

The accident-ridden N1 North and South Freeway received prayers and cleansing from various faith-based organisations just outside Polokwane in Limpopo. The ceremony was organised by the Limpopo SAPS. The interfaith organisation prayed for the safety of those who will be travelling on the freeway during the festive season while urging motorists to obey the rules of the road.

'WE ARE ONE'

The event was attended by senior government officials, faith-based leaders, Rastafarian leaders, traditional healers, traffic cops and community policing forums. Leaders from different religions were allowed to perform rituals separately, calling upon their ancestors and God and praying for divine intervention all in one voice. "Some motorists are driving carelessly on the road. Let us pray that everyone will drive with consideration for other drivers. As the holiday season draws near, may God keep us safe," said Major General Dikeledi Mangena, the Waterberg District Commissioner. In a joint statement, faith-based organisations said that the main reason for the day was to pray for the road to be cleared and for God to be with all the drivers that will be driving during the festive season. "We wish that this could happen frequently until there are no fatalities reported on our roads, especially towards this festive season. We wish that maybe we can report zero for this year."

HAND IT OVER TO GOD

They highlighted that the purpose of the day was to come together collectively to seek divine intervention and ask for forgiveness from God to heal and cleanse the road. Speaking on behalf of the provincial police commissioner, Major General Morakaladi said, "Today, we come together on this solemn occasion to honor the sacred ceremony of healing and cleansing the N1 road. This stretch of highway has witnessed its fair share of tragic road accidents. As we embark upon this journey of healing and transformation, let us draw inspiration from the inherent strength within us. Let us remain resolute and unwavering in our dedication to preventing road accidents, ensuring that every trip along the N1 road is both secure and unforgettable." Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba affirmed: "With God within us, we will contribute to reducing road fatalities and also be able to fight crime in general,".
