A 20-year-old grade 10 learner from Mbambiso High School was stabbed to death allegedly by a learner who was expelled from the school last year. The shocking incident took place in Boschfontein in Mpumalanga on Tuesday afternoon.
According to information, the 17-year-old minor suspect was expelled from the same school last year over violent behaviour. Mpumalanga SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala said that the incident is said to have happened after school outside the school premises. "Immediately after school hours, the victim was attacked just a stone's throw away from his school. When police attended the scene, the deceased was found in a pool of blood with a stab wound on his chest. The knife believed to be the murder weapon was also found next to the lifeless body of the victim," Mohlala said.
Mohlala said that the victim, Doctor Gift Nkosi (20) was certified dead on the scene by paramedics on the scene. "Circumstances that led to the brutal murder of the learner are unknown at the moment, but an investigation continues. The suspect fled the scene but was later handed over to the police by his parents," Mohlala said. He further said that the probation officer was roped in to do an assessment, whilst the suspect was released under his parent's custody as he is a minor. Provincial Commissioner in Mpumalanga Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela made a call to parents to monitor their children's movements and behaviour and seek professional intervention when the situation gets out of hand. "We really prioritise school safety, as a result, school safety campaigns are conducted on a regular basis with a specific focus on bullying. We cannot be at every school every time but the parents' involvement can play a major role in ensuring the safety of both learners and teachers at schools," said Manamela.
