Two former Bafana Bafana players from different generations will coach Sekhukhune United from now on. Eric Tinkler, who won the African Cup of Nations with Bafana in 1996, has been appointed the head coach of Sekhukhune United. He will be assisted by former Orlando Pirates and Cape Town City left-back Marc van Heerden.
NEW BEGINNINGS FOR SEKHUKHUNE UNITED
The coaches replaced Lesotho-born coach Lehlohonlo Seema, who was fired last week after his second stint with Sekhukhune. After being fired, the team announced that Kaitano Tembo and Paulos Masehe would be interim coaches until they appointed a new coach and a technical team. The Tembo-Masehe team did not get a chance to guide the team against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday during the Nedbank Quarter-final match after that game was postponed to a later date.
ONE OF THE BEST COACHES
Tinkler has coached several local teams like the Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, and Cape Town City, where he was relieved of his duties in December last year. The former Wits University midfielder has played football at the highest level in countries like Italy and England. Tinkler has a UEFA A license and is currently working towards a CAF A license and a UEFA Pro license. Meanwhile, Van Heerden, who retired from professional football last year in August at Cape Town City, is armed with a UEFA B Coaching License. Speaking on this appointment, club chairman Simon Malatji said: "We are honoured to have an experienced mentor like Tinkler in charge of our project. Head coach Eric Tinkler will be assisted by Paulus Masehe, Marc Van Heerden, and Nascent Nkhwashu, goalkeeper coach in a new-look technical team."
