After years of behind the scenes drama amongst cast members and disagreements between Sonia Mbele's production company and Multichoice, it has been revealed that The Real Housewives of Johannesburg (RHOJ) show has been canned.
NO MORE SHOW
Sources say the reality show was canned because the channel does not get along with producer and former Generations actor, Sonia Mbele. But according to letter seen by ZImoja, the channel decided not to recommission another season after a business review.
It is alleged that drama started when Sonia was told to stop communicating directly with NBC, the creators of the show in the United States.
"She is good at what she does and she is the one who brought the franchise to SA," added the source.
STILL BEING OWED MONEY
Another source said Sonia is not bothered, "but she has issues with people trying to discredit her work." The show created stars such as Christal Kay, Evodia aka Madam and her daughter Mercy, who became instant superstars during its debut season.
CEO of General Entertainment at Multichoice, Nomsa Philiso, refused to comment on the matter. She said, "I have no comment on this one." Sonia confirmed that she has been informed that the show has been cancelled. "My job is to set trends and let the rest follow. They must just pay me what they owe me," concluded Sonia.
