Ekurhuleni mayor Doctor Xhakaza says city officials who?ve been engaged in corrupt activities will feel his wrath. He vowed to discipline all those that bring the metro into disrepute.
MUNICIPALITY LOST MILLIONS
Xhakaza expressed concern over some city officials referring to seniors that were involved in a scandal where electricity accounts were manipulated, leading to revenue losses of about R300 million. Xhakaza said the efforts of his mayoral committee to expose corrupt city officials are faced with difficulties. ?Senior management are putting some of these councillors in their pockets, and these councillors are hellbent to do anything to see that these reports don't get to council.?
ALL THEY DO IS STEAL
Xhakaza said a vast number of senior city officials have done nothing but steal from the municipality. ?We must clean this city from the rot that has contributed so much to losses of the public money, and I'm here to do that.? Ekurhuleni has been riddled with corruption in the last few years. Xhakaza, facing a looming motion of no confidence, has blamed fraud within the municipality for the delays in a housing project, stating that it has hindered progress and service delivery to the most vulnerable. The residents have been waiting for RDP houses since 2018, but a R293 million project, which started in 2018 and was meant to be completed within two years, has yet to deliver results. As a result, residents are still living in shacks near the river. hakaza has blamed fraud within the municipality for the delays in the housing project. "An investigation is underway to track the missing funds."
