The Economic Freedom Fighters led by Julius Malema has announced the expulsion of 62 of their party's public representatives including KwaZulu Natal Former Provincial Chairperson Vusi Khoza. The public representatives failed to arrange 20 busses each to ferry members during the party's 10th year anniversary which was held at the FNB stadium in July.
FAILURE TO SECURES BUSES LEADS TO CHOP
The third biggest political party in the country said the expelled members were charged following their failure to adhere to a directive and an instruction by the party's central command team, which is the highest decision-making body of the party. In a statement yesterday, EFF says the members, mostly Members of Parliament, Members of Provincial Legislatures and councilors were initially instructed to resign from their positions with immediate effect. Malema said in August that those who refuse to resign will be charged and face disciplinary actions. Their issues were later elevated to the National Disciplinary Committee which imposed a sanction of expulsion on all 62 public representatives and members of the party who appeared before the structure.
PARTY CONFIRMS EXPULSION
The list shows that in KZN, the party has expelled 31 members, followed by North West with 12 members and Eastern Cape with 4 members kicked out of the party. The provinces with the least members to be fired from the party include Limpopo, Gauteng, Northern Cape and Free State, all with just three-party members shown the door. Western Cape province was the least affected party with the expulsion, as it has only one member fired from the political party.
"On Wednesday 18 October 2023, the EFF National Disciplinary committee presented the verdicts on all charges members to a special sitting of the Central Command Team and sought the concurrence of the organization. On the verdicts it made. The EFF CCT deliberated on all the verdicts and concurred with all the findings. The EFF is pleased that accountability, discipline and consequence management remains a guiding tool in the EFF and one that will ensure a capable and coherent government after 2024, which will be led by the EFF, " reads the statement. The political party had initially published the names of 210 officials naming and shaming them for failing to deliver on an instruction by the party to arrange transport for their constituencies. But that number was later reduced to 62 after other public representatives made sound representations to the party's top mandarins detailing their challenges and factors that led to their failure to procure buses for the party's 10th year anniversary.
