Dying for love

The police are investigating a murder case after a man was stabbed to death

What was meant to be a day for lovers turned into a nightmare after a man was stabbed to death allegedly by his love rival when he went to surprise his two-timing girlfriend with a Valentines gift.

STABBED TO DEATH

Sibusiso Nxumalo (22) from KwaShobashobane in Zingolweni, south of Durban, was allegedly stabbed to death in front of his girlfriend after a fight that broke out over her. It is alleged that Nxumalo had gone to his girlfriend's place to surprise her when he caught her with another man. He had bought her a teddy bear and chocolates as Valentines Day gifts on Wednesday afternoon. A neighbour who did not want to be named and witnessed the incident told ZiMoja that Sibusiso who stays in another village found his girlfriend in bed cuddling with another man and a fight broke out between the two men. "During the fight, the other man pulled out a knife and stabbed Sibusiso. He bled profusely and died at the scene. It is unfortunate that he died because of the woman he thought was loyal and loved him," the neighbour said.

DIED FOR LOVE

Another eyewitness said that the community was still shocked by the incident while the woman seemed not to care. "That same night, she had forgotten about her dead boyfriend and the one who stabbed him. She was having a good time at the tavern. She was dancing and drinking like nothing happened. I am convinced that she never loved Sibusiso. I think she was dating him for his money. Imagine dying for someone who does not care about you. It's painful," the eyewitness said. "It was really said seeing someone lying there in a pool of blood with all the gifts he had brought for his girlfriend."

KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Nqobile Gwala confirmed the incident. "A case of murder is being investigated by Ezinqoleni SAPS. It is alleged that on 14 February 2024, a 22-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death at KwaShobashobane area. The suspect fled the scene after the incident," she said.
