The Durban music community has recently expressed growing concern over the behaviour of award-winning artist L'vovo Derrango. Artists and promoters in KZN have reported instances of L'vovo allegedly harassing other artists at events, with some claiming that he has been displaying signs of frustration and temper issues.
DEMANDING RESPECT
According to sources within the industry, L'vovo has been confrontational with other artists, asserting that he is solely responsible for putting Durban on the international map and demanding respect from his peers. This behaviour has raised eyebrows and sparked worry. The source said most people are worried about the musician's rage. "We don't know what got into grootman to be telling us he is the only one who paved the way for us," said one artist who did not want to be identified. It's been suggested that L'vovo's conduct is driven by his frustration as he has not fully recovered, which has led to tensions within the music industry in Durban. "There is a better way of addressing his concerns or issues than lashing out at people," one source said.
EMOTIONAL HEALING IS IMPORTANT TOO
A music promoter from KZN said that as artists and promoters they strive to maintain a positive and supportive environment with the hope is that these issues can be resolved through open dialogue and mutual understanding. "We understand it's frustrating that he has not fully recovered but how are we going to help him if he is angry?" the promoter asked. The promoter added that he needs to focus on healing emotionally too. "He still has a long way - maybe he should also focus on healing emotionally if that is the case," When called for comment, L'vovo could care less about the other issues and maintained that him and Zakes Bantwini changed the face of music in KZN. "No one can just come here and try and change the history- Zakes and I changed the game of Durban kwaito music. Period," he said.
