Durban-based Kwaito and Gqom artists, Bhar, real name Sifiso Mshengu and Sosha Ngcobo say they are grateful to be alive after they were involved in a car accident on Saturday night. The two artists are said to have been travelling in one car with former Generations and now Uzalo actor, Bhekisizwe Mahlawe. ZiMoja has learned that there were no casualties in the crash, but the cars involved in the accident were both written off, leaving passengers critically wounded.

THEY WERE ON THEIR WAY TO A GIG

Speaking to ZiMoja, Bhar said he is grateful to God and his ancestors for protecting him. He said they were driving to a gig in Hillcrest, outside Durban in KwaZulu Natal when a BMW came speeding and hit them. "We were just minding our business, excited about going to the event while the driver was busy monitoring the navigation system, we just heard a big bang, and from there, everything went blank," said Bhar. "Luckily no one died," he added.

SAFETY BELT SAVED HIS LIFE

According to Bhar, he was saved by a safety belt. "Had it not been for the fact that I had my safety belt on, I would have died or flung out of the car," he added. Although he has been released from hospital, two of his fellow passengers are still in hospital.

He said he was still much in pain and struggling to move. "It is still hard to move around. I also have the safety belt bruises left across my chest," said Bhar. The driver of the car and Uzalo actor Bhekisizwe said although the car was written off, they were grateful for life. "The car is replaceable, but life is more precious and valuable," he said. He added that although he is feeling fine, he has taken a few days off work to sort out the car and insurance. "I want to process this ordeal. I don’t take it for granted. That accident could have been fatal. I think that guy was sleeping while he was driving," he concluded.
