After being dead and buried last year, the popular sneaker brand Drip Footwear has risen from the ashes. Lekau Sehoana, the owner and founder of the sneaker brand, launched the new Drip Likwidz 23 Sneaker which is available at TAPE, Mall of Africa in Midrand, Gauteng, yesterday under a new name Drip Sportif.

Drip Footwear was placed under liquidation in October 2024 after a court ruling. The liquidation led to the closure of all 14 Drip stores and laying off of all employees.The liquidation of Drip was ordered by the Johannesburg High Court after an application by an advertising agency Wideopen Platform.

HE WAS SAID TO BE DROWNING IN DEBT

Wideopen claimed that Drip owed them R20 million for advertising services and when it was found they could not service the debt, the court ruled that Drip was insolvent. The V&A Waterfront in Cape Town also terminated Drip's lease for failing to pay rent for their plush offices. 

The Drip Group was also in hot water and faced losing R3.6m to the state for violating foreign exchange regulations pertaining to payment made to Sehoana three years ago.

HIS PERSONAL ISSUES 

Things also started going south in his personal life when his wife Lebogang claimed that her hubby staring spending more time on the business and neglected their marriage. She claimed that he would come home late and that the biggest deal-breaker was when he started doing rituals.

During an interview on a podcast she explained that their divorce had been dragging on since 2022. He suggested that they settle out of court, but still dragged on the issue. She also claimed that over time that Sehoana shut everyone out and stopped taking care of his mother and family.
