Dr Nandipha Magudumana back in court to apply for bail

Dr Nandipha Magudumana will be back in court to apply for bail

Controversial Dr Nandipha Magudumane will be back in the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court this morning in a bid to get released. In June, Magudumana took the Minister of Home Affairs and Police to court to declare her arrest and deportation from Tanzania unlawful. The Free State High Court dismissed her application with costs.

FUGITIVE LOVER

Magudumana was arrested in April along her lover and convicted killer Thabo Bester in Arusha in Tanzania. Bester allegedly with the help of Magudumana and eleven other suspects escaped from Mangaung Prison and used a stranger's body as a decoy. National Prosecuting Authority confirmed that she will be back in court this morning. Spokesperson Phaladi Shaping says the state will oppose bail. The hearing is set to take place over a period of two days. Magudumana has never exercised her right to file for bail hearing since her arrest four months ago as she believed she was illegally arrested and kidnapped from the East African country.

FACING SEVERAL CHARGES

Magudumana together with her co-accused face several charges including fraud, corruption, violation of a body, harbouring a fugitive and defeating the ends of justice. Magudumana recently wrote a moving letter where she threatened to lift the lid on the abuse she claimed to have suffered in the hands of 'powerful men'. She also claimed to have suffered physical, emotional, financial and sexual abuse she suffered prior to her arrest. She is currently being held at the Bizzah Makhate Correctional Centre in Kroonstad in the Free State. She, her lover Bester and eleven co-accused including her father will be back in court on 11 October.
