Limpopo police are investigating inquest and murder cases after a couple was found in a pool of blood in their bedroom at Hlaneki village, Giyani. Limpopo police spokesperson SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba confirmed that the bodies belong to Sergeant Melvin Sambo (39) based at Giyani SAPS and his wife Suzan Mhlarhi (42).
Mashaba says the police received a complaint on Sunday night of a shooting at Hlaneki village. "Upon arrival at the scene of a crime, they discovered two lifeless bodies of a male and female lying in a pool of blood in their bedroom," said Mashaba. According to the information available at this stage, it is reported that the female had three bullet wounds on the body and the male had a bullet wound in the head," he said. Mashaba said they will wait on the postmortem results to determine the cause of death. "Circumstances surrounding the shooting are being investigated and the element of domestic violence cannot be ruled out. A case of murder and an inquest is being investigated by the Giyani police," he said.
Meanwhile, the provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has urged the members of law enforcement to utilise the Employee Health and Wellness services should they feel overwhelmed. Hadebe has expressed sadness over the shooting. "We have our unit that deals with psychological and spiritual support services, the Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) for the well-being of ourselves and our families. We urge our members to make use of these services at their disposal without fail," said Hadebe. "We convey our heartfelt condolences to the family, colleagues as well and loved ones during these trying times." Police investigations are underway.
