Bodyguard of Burna Boy's promoter arrested after recovery of diamond ring

Gregory Wings with his wife Britney wearing the diamond ring

The police have arrested a bodyguard of Burna Boy's South African based promoter,Gregory Wings, after he allegedly tried to extort money from the American. Wings had asked his bodyguard to take his diamond ring worth R400 000 to the jewellery store for service and to add diamonds.

HOW THE RING WAS STOLEN

ZiMoja reported on Sunday that Wings sent his bodyguard who was registered with jeweller and this meant he was the only one allowed to collect it. According to Wings' friend, who spoke to ZiMoja, Wings paid the jewellery store and the bodyguard was meant to take the ring to the store and later collect it, but he went MIA. The friend also said that when Wings contacted the jewellery store with proof of purchase, the jewellers could not release the ring as it needed the bodyguard to collect it, citing safety reasons. "But Wings had proven beyond reasonable doubt that he was the owner of the ring. The bodyguard allegedly collected the ring but it never made it to Wings. He opened a case with Sandton police."

BODYGUARD ARRESTED

The police have confirmed that Wings ring has been recovered and that a suspect has been arrested. Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said: "Police can confirm that a 34-year-old suspect was arrested on Monday. He is expected to appear before Alexandra Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 08 May 2024, facing a charge of theft." Wings is excited by the swift response the police showed in arresting the suspect. He told ZiMoja: "I feel that my trust has been betrayed after my wedding ring vanished in the hands of my once-trusted bodyguard. He tried to use tactics of extortion and blackmail, but justice has finally prevailed, thanks to the relentless efforts of the Sandton police station." The 42-year-old businessman hopes that justice will be served.
