Durban-based DJ Kotini says he is frustrated and annoyed at the fact that he is not getting gigs because of the new breed of slay queen deejays who are taking over.
REAL TALENT STRUGGLING
Kotini, real name Siyabonga Zikode, says nowadays, promoters are no longer booking credible talent. "Instead they prefer half-naked girls who call themselves DJs over us. This is really frustrating because we put hard work into this yet we are overlooked," he said. He added that not getting bookings is slowly affecting him financially and emotionally. "I now understand why artists get depressed, we also have loved ones who are dependent on us- this is our bread and butter. We need to put bacon on the table but if we not getting any bookings because of talentless people then we are doomed" Kotini said
HIS DRUG CASE COULD BE THE PROBLEM
But according to a source, DJ Kotini's troubles of not getting gigs could be caused by his drug arrest last year. He was busted alongside Big Nuz member Danger last year after allegedly being found in possession of drugs. The two were in Amanzimtoti, KwaZulu Natal, at the time of their arrest. According to reports, someone tipped off the police about the two artist's involvement in drugs. The source says ever since that scandal he has been struggling to get gigs."This guy is talented and knows how to entertain music lovers but his arrest might have had a negative impact on his work, " the source concluded.
