DJ Zandimaz makes comeback to music industry after undergoing brain surgery

Singer DJ Zandimaz is making a comeback

After having gone through a tough period earlier this year, singer, DJ and lawyer Zandimaz, real name Zandile Zithulele, said she is grateful for good health and is slowly coming back to the music scene. Zandimaz underwent brain surgery to remove a brain tumour in March this year.

BRAIN TUMOUR

DJ Zandimaz had a seizure while touring the UK in 2022, which was followed by a second one weeks later while working in Zambia. She said her doctor discovered that she had a brain tumour. When sharing the news of her surgery a few months ago, she said it took her a year of depression to accept her fate and finally reached a decision to have the surgery in order to get her life back. The Maphupho singer then had a successful seven-hour surgery, and she had to spend five days in the ICU to recover. During her road to recovery, she said she continued to write songs while she was home.

DOING MUSIC AGAIN

She is so serious about reviving her career that she has already started performing at different venues. To mark her return, she recently launched her latest single Bawo at Propaganda in Pretoria. "I'm not dropping a full album, but I'm dropping singles. Early this month I released a single titled Bawo, which is a gospel song. It talks about my situation, where I am thankful to God for being with me. People are responding super great to my music," said Zandimaz. She said healthwise, she had healed about 80 percent and was ready to rock her fans with her music.

LOSING FRIENDS

She said she is glad that she has a supportive husband, even though she lost a lot of friends when she got sick. She said during her health scare journey, she lost people whom she thought were real friends, but she doesn't care because her being in the hospital revealed certain characters in her life. "It was a blessing in disguise. I have lost a lot of friends that have been there for clout. That time there was no Zandimaz, but there was Zandile. But I wouldn't consider that a loss because God was showing me who to keep in my life. I have a supportive husband and friends who have always been there for me," she said. She said she also took a knock financially because she did not have gigs after the getting sick. Zandimaz shot to fame in 2013 with her hit single Emathandweni featuring Nokwazi.
