The DA in KwaZulu-Natal has confirmed the brutal murder of its chief whip in Umngeni Municipality, Nhlalayenza Ndlovu, who was shot multiple times and killed in his home last night. The party has urged law enforcement to do all they can to swiftly arrest those responsible for this tragedy.
In a brief statement, the DA provincial leader Francois Rodgers, expressed shock and said the party has lost a humble servant. "The DA sends its heartfelt condolences to the family of Councillor Ndlovu, the DA caucus in uMngeni and the residents of the municipality that have lost a humble servant who always put the needs of those he served above his own. He will be sorely missed," said Rogers. He said the motive around Ndlovu's death is unknown at this stage but urged the police to arrest the perpetrators. "I wouldn't want to speculate and say Gatsheni's murder was political - it would be unwise of me. However, I am tired of calling on the enforcement to bring murderers to book. I feel like 30% of my life I'm asking the police to do their job. I'm tired. Where is the intelligence?" he asked.
uMngeni Mayor, Chris Pappas, described Ndlovu as a great servant of the people who gave selflessly to the people of uMngeni and Mpofana. "Please keep his wife and small children in your thoughts and prayers. We will update the public as more information becomes available. May his soul rest in peace," said Papas. The provincial police confirmed that they were investigating the murder.
