An investigating officer was shot dead in Westbury in Johannesburg as he was busy taking down statements from a witness about a murder case. Warrant Officer Dalmain Morris who was attached to the SAPS Gauteng Anti-Gang-Unit was killed on Sunday evening just after 6pm.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said Morris was shot and killed allegedly by occupants of a white Renault Clio, who fired shots and drove away. The witness who was being interviewed and a bystander also sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to a nearby hospital for medical care," Mathe said. Acting National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Tebello Mosikili has ordered the mobilisation of maximum resources to apprehend suspects behind the killing," Mathe said.
Mathe also said the police in Gauteng are still on a manhunt for a group of suspects who shot and killed Sergeant Holeng Makobe in Mabopane on Friday. Makobe and three other colleagues were conducting crime prevention patrols in the area when they stopped a maroon VW Golf 1. "The officers ordered the driver to produce his licence and the four other occupants inside the vehicle started shooting at police," she said.
