Cop arrested for the murder of a colleague at a police station

Constable Thabo Thusi will re-appear in court of Friday for bail application

Police officers at Nsuze Mobile Police Station in Ndwedwe, outside Durban in KwaZulu Natal, are still reeling in shock after their colleague allegedly killed another on Tuesday night. It's alleged that one officer, Constable Thabo Thusi, shot and killed his colleague, Sergeant Nkanyiso Khoza, over money he owed him.

KILLED FOR MONEY OWED

According to a source at the station, Thusi who was off duty, owed Khoza an undisclosed amount of money and failed to pay it back for over three months. "Khoza kept pestering him demanding his money back and Thusi was making excuses," a source said, adding that the deceased was a known mashonisa at the station. On Tuesday night, when most cops had left the station and Khoza on duty, it's alleged that Thusi went to the station armed with a firearm and shot Khoza dead. While he thought he had committed a perfect murder, one of his colleagues who was also at the station witnessed him running away from the scene. "When he was arrested the next day, he confessed that they argued over money Khoza had loaned him. He was battling to pay and that that led to him killing him."

MURDER AT THE POLICE STATION

KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda confirmed that a 40-year-old Constable was arrested after he allegedly shot and killed his colleague, a sergeant at the Nsuze police station. Netshiunda said the 47-year-old sergeant was on duty at night when he was shot by an off-duty officer on Tuesday night. "An on-duty constable was doing routine patrol inside the premises of the police station when he heard gunshot sounds coming out of the station. When he rushed to investigate, he reportedly saw an off-duty constable running away. When the on-duty constable entered the station, he reportedly found his colleague sitting on the chair with gunshot wounds. In an unusual turn of events, the suspected murderer reported for duty on Wednesday morning where he was duly arrested. The motive for the killing is unknown at this stage," Netshiunda said. Thusi appeared at the Ndwedwe Magistrate Court last week Friday and his case was postponed to 14 July for bail application.
