Condolences for Eswatini Police Chief who died at OR Tambo airport

Eswatini National Police Commisionaire has passed away

The South African Police Services have expressed their condolences to the Royal Eswatini Police Service as well as the family of Commissioner William Dlamini. Dlamini died at the OR Tambo International airport on Saturday morning while returning from Angola.

CONDOLENCES

National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said that Dlamini was in-transit to the Kingdom of Eswatini from Angola where he attended the 26th Interpol African Regional Conference when he met his ultimate death. "The Commissioner collapsed and died at the airport. Both the family and the delegation that accompanied the late Commissioner on his official trip have received psychosocial services by psychologists attached to the SAPS Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) unit," Mathe said. National police commissionaire General Fanie Masemola described Dlamini as a soft spoken and committed senior police officer who was dedicated to enhancing cooperation to counter transnational organised crime in the region. "Our sincerest condolences to the Royal Eswatini Police Service and the family of the late Commissioner. Commissioner Dlamini was a humble and dedicated to the cause of serving. He was always available to discuss collaboration in preventing and combating cross border crime in the SADC region. The SAPS is providing the necessary support in line with its expertise through its Interpol office," said Masemola.

BRAVE AND LOYAL SERVANT

In a statement, the Kingdom of Eswatini government said they were shocked by Dlamini's death. Acting Prime Minister Chief Mgwagwa Gamedze described Dlamini as a brave, humble and loyal servant of the Swati nation. "On behalf of His Majesty's government, I would like to express our deepest condolences to their Majesties, the Nation, the Royal Eswatini Police Service, his family, friends, relatives and everyone who has interacted with the NATCOM in different stages of his life," said Gamedze. Gamedze urged the nation to have the Royal Eswatini Police Service and the Dlamini family in their prayers during such a sad period in their lives. "Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course," he said. The course of Dlamini's death is unknown and the police confirmed that his body was transported to his home country yesterday.
