The City of Johannesburg manager ,Floyd Brink, is heading to court in an attempt to evade arrest after he was issued with a warrant last week. Brink was found in contempt of a court order interdicting the city from cutting off the water supply to an electrical imports business.

Brink survived the arrest following an error with his name last week. In the court papers, Brink claims that the contempt application was not directed to him personally and that he had no knowledge that it was in court. He argued that the warrant issued was, in fact, suspended for a year. However, the company in question, Pibir Investments, maintains that Brink knew of the proceedings that dates back as far as 17 August 2023 when they wrote to his attorneys. The company has also launched a counter application to verify the order that was handed down to correct the spelling of Brink's name and to uplift the suspension of the warrant.

Joburg Mayor Kabelo Gwamanda condemned the harassment of Brink by politicians accusing them of using the courts to compromise and prevent him from exercising his duties. Gwamanda believes that this is a personal attack on Brink and he won't not accept it. "The city manager has been the target of incessant harassment by certain political actors utilising the courts to compromise and prevent him from exercising his duties. This attack on his person and character has now been orchestrated to embarrass and target him and his family and to create a public perception that the city manager is a suspect in a criminal matter. Suspicious leaks to the media and subsequent articles have also been used to further this narrative and the City takes a cautious and dim view of this abuse and ill-intent," he said.
