The matter against Shaun Podile, accused of murdering and beheading his baby mama Nqobile Khumalo, has been postponed for address verification. Shaun appeared before the Protea Magistrates' Court on Thursday facing a charge of murder. He confessed to killing the mother of his two children earlier this month in Jabulani, Soweto.
The brother of the deceased Mlungisi Khumalo said he believes that the state has a strong case because the accused has admitted to committing the crime. He said according to his understanding, the accused suspected that his last-born son was not his.
"Apparently he was angry because he doubted the paternity of his second born. The boy is four years old now, if he wasn't sure he should have taken a DNA test to prove it. Basically, he killed my sister based on speculation. I wish he had just chased her away instead of taking her life," he said. He added that a lot of kids grow up without fathers and if the accused really believed the child wasn't his, he should have to disowned him.
Two brave sangomas turned Shaun in when he confessed to killing his girlfriend and baby mama and went to the river asking to be cleansed. It is alleged that the two healers, one of them a JMPD officer and the other a community safety officer, were praying at a river in New Canada, near Noordgesig, when they were approached by Shaun. The sangomas took Shaun to the police station to report the murder. He then took the police to his flat where Nqobile's head was found in a bucket and her body underneath their bed. Shaun' will appear in court again on 15 August.
