LIMPOPO: The police in Sekhukhune have launched a manhunt for suspects who robbed a woman of a substantial amount of money belonging to a stokvel on Monday. Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said preliminary investigations revealed that the members of a local social club from Strydkraal Block A village met at the victim's house to discuss how they would distribute the cash at around 3pm. According to Ledwaba, the meeting concluded at around 7 pm, and the stokvel members left for their homes, leaving the 54-year-old woman who had all their cash with her teenage daughter. "At about 22:00, three unknown male suspects instantly broke into her house and robbed a substantial amount of cash belonging to the social club later locked the two victims inside one of the bedrooms before fleeing the scene on foot. The two victims were later rescued by a relative and the matter was reported to the police," Ledwaba said. A case of house robbery has been opened and a manhunt for the three male suspects is ongoing. The Provincial Police Commissioner General, Thembi Hadebe, has warned the community, particularly stokvel clubs, against carrying lumps of cash to avoid being victims of crime.
FREE STATE: A 29-year-old murder suspect who was identified by his victim before she died has been extradited from Lesotho. The suspect was arrested in Lesotho in June for the murder of his ex-girlfriend Selina Agmed (31) in August last year. It's alleged that the suspect went to Agmed's house in the early hours of the morning, and an argument ensued. He then stabbed Agmed multiple times on her head and body before he fled the scene. The Hennenman police were called to the scene, where they found the victim lying on the kitchen floor in a pool of blood. The police said that despite her critical injuries, Agmed was able to identify her attacker as her ex-boyfriend from Lesotho, who had been residing in Thabong. She also told the police what happened on that fateful morning before she passed away in the hospital half an hour later from her injuries. Following police investigations, the suspect was located and arrested in Lesotho and eventually extradited to South Africa. He will appear in the Hennenman Magistrate's Court today on a charge of murder.
MPUMALANGA: A man appeared in court yesterday after he was arrested for transporting counterfeit goods worth over R3.5 million. Hawks spokesperson in Mpumalanga Colonel Dineo Sekgotodi said Willy Mxolise Mhlongo (34) was arrested on Monday at around 2am while transporting the fake goods to Gauteng from Nkomazi. Segotodi said fake sneakers of brands like Nike, All-Star,Reebok, Converse and Jordan sneakers were seized. Mhlongo was arrested, charged and appeared in the Komatipoort Magistrate's Court on the same day, where he was remanded in custody. The counterfeit goods, together with the vehicle, were confiscated. The case was postponed to 17 December 2024 for bail application and legal representation.
