KWAZULU NATAL: A police sergeant who is part of the Royal VIP protection of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has allegedly ended his life after killing a woman in a hit-and-run accident. The police say the sergeant failed to stop after hitting the 26-year-old woman on Phoenix Highway. However, it was reported that there was a person who went to the accident scene to pick up a front registration plate that fell off the vehicle during the accident. The police added that shortly after a case of culpable homicide was registered at Phoenix police station, a sergeant who was the last person to be in possession of the state vehicle in question went to the same police station to open a case of theft of a motor vehicle. The vehicle was later found abandoned at the sugarcane fields on Saturday morning. On Monday morning, police received reports that the 48-year-old sergeant who was implicated in the hit-and-runf had taken his own life.
NORTH WEST: A 15-year-old learner in Klipgat has been arrested after he was found in possession of a firearm and six rounds of ammunition in school. The police said on arrival at the school after being called by the principal, the learner told them that the firearm belonged to his brother, who has since gone missing. The learner was arrested and put under the care of his parents. However, police investigation revealed that the firearm was stolen in Mabopane, Gauteng province, on 11 July 2024.
GAUTENG: On Saturday, the Gauteng traffic police department was hit with a double tragedy after two of their members died in a murder-suicide. The deceased are said to have been a known couple and were both attending the funeral of their fellow colleague at Debonair Park in Vereeniging when an argument ensued between the two. Police said they received information that the couple took their argument outside, and shortly after that, gunshots were heard. The police said the female officer shot her partner four times before turning the gun on herself. ER25 declared the couple, who both had firearms in their hands, dead on the scene.
WESTERN CAPE: A17-year-old accused of stabbing to death Hoerskool Overberg pupil, Deveney Nel, appeared briefly at the Caledon Magistrates Court yesterday. The body of the 16-year-old girl was found dumped on Wednesday, 14 August, behind the locked doors of the school's storeroom. The accused was charged with murder and was taken to a place of safety after his case was postponed to the 18th of September for further investigation.
GAUTENG: The police in Tsakane in Ekurhuleni have arrested a suspect and recovered a firearm and ammunition following a business robbery and shootout at Langaville Extension 1 in Tsakane yesterday. According to the police, the four-armed suspects entered a tavern, demanding money and instructing the owner to enter the house. As they were leaving the business premises, the suspects were engaged in a shootout with police and attempted to hijack a community member. The community member was shot in the hand during the process and is receiving medical attention. A suspect was arrested after a preliminary investigation, found with injuries and in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Further investigation is ongoing, with possible additional arrests anticipated.
