On Saturday, the community of KwaMashu n KwaZulu Natal gathered at the Esangweni Lutheran Church to pay their final respects to flamboyant businessman Nhlahla Mbambo. Mbambo, ex-husband of the late music iconic Brenda Fassie passed away on October 2 after a year-long battle with cancer.
DIGNIFIED FUNERAL
Those who were close to him celebrated his life and the impact he had on those around him. According to one of his friends who attended the funeral service, it was beautiful and dignified. The source says although there were no dignitaries and famous people, but his close friends and family came in their numbers. "It was a beautiful day - he was full of life and his friends celebrated him in an appropriate way, it did not feel sad," says the source.
FAILED MARRIAGE TO MABRR
Brenda and Mbambo were married in an extravagant wedding in 1989. Their marriage only lasted two years when the late songstress accused her estranged husband of being after her money. Mbambo was arrested in 1999 together with his two accused after they tried to rob a businessman Greg Xenoulos of his Mercedes Benz. The court at the time heard that the trio held Xenoulos and a friend at gun point and demanded the car keys but that the gun seized. He was sentenced to an effective ten-year imprisonment. Before his death, Mbambo is said to have been a businessman.
