Her fans are excited after she dropped two freestyles, one on AKA and Thato Saul’s Mbuzi and K.O’s Rockabye. Before that, she delivered an unofficial remix of the song Sosh Plata by Loatinover Pounds, promising her return to the music industry. Actress, businesswoman, and rapper Boity Thulo took a three-year hiatus from making music and finding herself and she tells ZiMoja that she is back and the pressure is high for her to make some award-winning music.
PARTNERING WITH ZAKES BANTWINI AND NOMCEBO ZIKODE
She has been working on new music for about a year. She joined Aline, an agency that has partnered with the Grammy Award-winning artists Zakes Bantwini and Nomcebo Zikode, as well as the multi-talented musician, media personality, and multimedia entrepreneur Boity. Apart from being a talent agency, the company is also a producer of live shows, content, and experiential events and concerts. "Working with Zakes and the team has been amazing. With all the lessons I have learned in the music space, me being messed over by previous management. It was important for me to spend a year with this team to see If these people have my best interest at heart and walk the talk," she says. "We have become family and it’s so much easier to see that they have my back." The Ba Kae rapper will be one of the acts billed to perform at the Abantu concert at the DHL Stadium in Green Point Cape Town on 28 October along with a surprise international act.
RELEASING MUSIC
She hasn’t released music in three years. "I am so happy to be back!" she says. "There was some point when I tried different genres. There were some posts on social media where I share doing Amapiano etcetera, just trying different things out. I was exploring but mostly waiting for the right time for me to release new music," she adds. "I am a firm believer in stopping when I am not ready." She is anxious to release music, especially after teasing with the freestyles. "The pressure is high now. I think I set the bar high for myself, which is a lot of pressure. I want to release two singles and show people that I am back. We are trying to figure out which songs to release first, my one or also a feature." Boity says she can’t wait to drop the song featuring Emtee. "Working with Emtee was amazing. He is so talented. Just watching him record was a marvel. He is so gifted. It was an honour to work with him."
HEALING AND BEING SINGLE AGAIN
In the last three years, she’s had a lot of personal issues to resolve. In 2021 she had an altercation with DJ and TV host Sthembinkosi "Bujy" Bikwa that turned violent. The incident left her with a few cars on her face. Bujy was booked and charged with assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after throwing a glass at her face. Boity has since dropped the charges and the two are learning to move on and heal. "I’m in a very good head space right now," Boity says. "I feel lighter and at ease. Nothing will be perfect. There will always be bullshit here and there, but there is nothing life-altering that is making me feel restricted. I am in a chilled space and working with good people." Since reports on her breakup with Anton Japhta, Boity says she is putting all her energy into her music. "I am romantically involved with my music at the moment. I just want to focus on that and nothing else."
THE BOOB SURGERY
Boity has also opened up about her breast surgery, and how she needed it for her health. "I have always been transparent and straightforward forward I have had conversations with women and their breasts issues," she says. "I wanted to document my experience to remove the stigma that we still have as South Africans around surgery especially when it affects your life negatively. I wanted to encourage other women to do what makes them happy. I’m a huge advocate of fixing things that don’t make one happy," she adds. "I also wanted to plug Dr. Bruce on the forefront. He is fantastic and one of the advanced plastic surgeons in the continent and he is a black man."
