Self-proclaimed blesser Serge Cabonge stuck in Dubai floods

Serge Cabonge with his daughter on her birthday over the weekend before the floods

Self-proclaimed blesser Serge Cabonge and his daughter found themselves in the streets of Dubai desperate and homeless this week. This after the five-star hotel he was booked in was flooded amidst the much-publicised floods that hit the diamond country. According to reports more than 120 mm of rain came down yesterday, leaving most parts of the country flooded including homes and roads and partially submerged cars.

CELEBRATION GONE WRONG

Cabonge is currently in the United Arab Emirates to celebrate his daughter's birthday and expected to be back in the country on Saturday. Speaking to ZiMoja where he is still outside the hotel and seeking alternative accommodation, Serge says he is grateful that he is safe, along with daughter, after what they went through. "We have been put in a safe place currently while we are still seeking alternative accommodation. The rain has messed up our holiday because we had a lot of activities planned for the rest of the week. To make things worse, we did not even pack warm clothes as the weather was hot when we left SA. We had no idea that nature would turn against us," he said.

LOOKING FOR ALTERNATIVES

He said the weather was fine over the weekend when he celebrated his daughter's birthday. "Yesterday we woke up to flooding in our hotel rooms. The things that we bought here in Dubai are also damaged. Things are bad here. Mall of Dubai is also flooded and the network is bad here." He added that even though they are currently stranded, what is important is that his daughter enjoyed her birthday before the floods. Now his main concern is to get back to SA and by the look of things, they might be stuck in Dubai for longer. According to reports, Dubai airport which is the second busiest airport in the world is temporarily closed and several flights were diverted on Tuesday due to the flash floods causing disruptions and traffic on the road leading to the airport. Authorities in the country also warned that there will be more thunderstorms and heavy rainfalls in the coming days.
