His entry into the music industry rubbed off many artists the wrong way with the controversial song titled Ninyile. In the song, he disses and curses almost every popular rapper in the country except for Big Zulu, whom he claimed to fear. Many labelled rapper Big Xhosa, real name Sesethu Myeki a clout chaser and a gimmick. But the Cathcart-born rapper and singer says it was a well-thought-out strategy into the music industry and it was done intentionally.

THE GIMMICKS

Big Xhosa says he chose to be controversial at the beginning of his career, so he could gain entry into the mainstream. "Those who understand what’s going on get why I entered the industry in that way," he tells ZiMoja. "It was to get attention so I can drop real music. As much as there’s the perception of me clowning around but those who watch me closely know that I am slowly killing it. I just used the gimmicks to gain momentum to be able to drop real music."

THE COLLABORATION

The name Big Xhosa was inspired by one of his icons, Big Zulu, and he had been longing to do a song with him even before he even gained fame. "I first sent Big Zulu a DM on social media, only a year later am I getting the feature that I wanted." On Spring Day, Big Zulu will drop his romantic hip-hop song titled My Ex featuring Big Xhosa. "I met Big Zulu officially for the first time now in August. He is a very humble and chilled person. I have always wanted to meet him, so this collaboration is a big deal."

A SINGER

Big Xhosa chose to do a love song with Big Zulu because "everyone can relate to love," he says. "I feel love songs people can relate to them, whether you are old or just having your first taste of love or first date. Everyone can relate to it," he says. Besides rapping, Big Xhosa has a melodic singing voice. "A lot of people don’t know that I can sing because of the character I first introduced to them. They are about to witness me actually singing in the new track."
