One person had been shot dead and five wounded in yet another tavern shooting in Limpopo. The shooting is one of two to have rocked the province in three days. On Thursday, two people were killed and six others wounded at a tavern in Malamulele.
Just like in theThursday's shooting, patrons were shot randomly, at a tavern in Pharare village in Maake outside Tzaneen in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to Limpopo police, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, two unknown men armed with a rifle and pistol stormed the tavern premises at about 2 am this morning and started shooting indiscriminately at the patrons who were sitting outside the establishment. "During the incident, six people were shot, one was declared dead at the scene while the other five were rushed to the nearby hospital," Ledwaba said.
Limpopo provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe said that the team of investigators working together with the provincial murder and robbery and crime intelligence is on the ground to establish the motive and consequently arrest the perpetrators involved in these shootings. "The team is working around the clock to track down and bring to book those responsible for these shootings. In the meantime, we are appealing to anyone who may be able to assist with information, which could assist in the successful investigation", said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
Police have opened a case of murder and five counts of attempted murder. The motive for the incident is not yet known.
