Another dark cloud over Umhlobo Wenene FM

Umhlobo Wenene breakfast show producer Lusizo Canda has passed away

A dark cloud seems to be hovering over Umhlobo Wenene FM. This is after a fourth person working at the station passed away in a period of six weeks. Last month, the station lost two story writers and a voice over artist in three weeks. Yesterday, the breakfast show producer Lusizo Canda passed away.

BREAKFAST SHOW PRODUCER PASSES AWAY

The station's Breakfast Eyondlayo Ekuseni (BEE) show producer Canda is said to have passed away at his home yesterday. The station broke the sad news on its official Facebook page this afternoon. In a short post the station wrote: "Lala Ngoxolo, Lusizo Canda, umdidiyeli we BEE". According to sources at the station, Canda died shortly after he learned that he will no longer be producing the breakfast show. "He was fine in the morning when he came to work an the good mood until he was told the bad news. I tried to encourage him that it was not end of the world or his career," said the source. Another source said after receiving the bad news, his worry was his family as he was a bread winner. "He lov ed his job and gave it his all. He was really crushed about the prospect of being unemployed or taking a salary cut because the cost of living is high," added the source.

LOSING FOUR EMPLOYEES IN SIX WEEKS

From last month, the station was been crippled by death. Reverend Nomathamsanqa Rweqana, an award-winning writer for the station's drama series Ithini Na Lento and radio host Sonwabo Yawa both passed away on 6 February from illness. The two were followed by voice over artist Nomampondo Noluthando Simayi who died in a car accident while returning from Yawa's funeral with colleagues. The three colleagues, who are drama actors, Nokukhanya Kula and Mzwandile Nzenze and a senior producer Toffee Zitshu were injured in the same accident. SABC has confirmed the news of Canda's death. Spokesperson Monnie Seapolelo said: "Yes we confirm the sad news of his passing. We would like to send our heartfelt condolences to his colleagues and family,"
