Another artist has left the controversial label, Open Mic Productions. This comes months after their legal representative and Managing Director (MD) Nkateko Maluleke, artist manager Brendon Maseko, and three other staff members left the stable. The staff members left after Makhadzi, Prince Benza, Master KG, and Nomcebo pursued their solo careers. Things have not been going well fo rthe label.
FEELING NEGLECTED
This time, rising star, DJ Obza announced that he left the label to pursue his career as an independent artist. A source close to the DJ says he left after feeling "neglected" by the label. "He felt that through the years of him being at the label, he was not getting much attention. The focus was mostly on the well-known artists," the source says. "He released albums, but none of them had done well, he was still hustling, unlike the other stars who had been doing well."
AN HONOUR
In his statement, however, DJ Obza said otherwise. He said that he enjoyed his time. "Of course, he would say that. He doesn't want to burn his bridges, but we all know he was not happy," the source says. "After three studio albums and some wonderful personal and creative relationships, it is time to depart from my former record label. It has been an honour to be part of such an exceptional team," Obza announced in a statement. He says he gained some priceless experiences at the label and rewarding years. "However, it is time for me to venture out as an independent artist." Despite much effort, Open Mic Productions Music Executive, Lionel Jamela, was not available for comment.
