Actor and radio personality Khaya Dladla is leaving Gagasi FM. The news of his non-return comes after reports that Penny Ntuli dumped the station for allegedly offering her a salary of R2 800 a month. Penny who joined the station in 2022, confirmed she asked the station not to renew her contract as she felt disrespected by the offer.

ALLEGED TOXICITY

An insider revealed to ZiMoja that Khaya also decided not to renew his contract after he was given an offer. "He was with the station since 2018 and had a great time for the first few years. He is gatvol," an insider said.

When called for comment, Khaya revealed he indeed is leaving the radio station and will wrap his final show on March 29. Fondly known to listeners as "The Favourite Queer of the airwaves", Khaya says he's leaving Gagasi FM to focus on broadening his horizons and expanding his brand nationally and internationally and also realign his brand value with like-minded brands," he said.

"It was a pleasure bringing life to all the campaigns. It pains me that I find myself in a position where I have had to leave a brand that I fell in love with years ago due to the non-conducive environment," Khaya added. Without going into too much detail about his exit he further said, "The trajectory of my brand is no longer aligned with that of the station, however, I would like to thank every single person who made my journey at Gagasi FM a fruitful one, from the visionaries who appreciated my talent and invited me to join Gagasi FM to the amazing talent I had the pleasure of working with. "All the great on-air personalities brought so much flavour and colour to this brand."

MORE COMPLAINTS

Author and life coach Laura M shared her experience with Gagasi FM saying she can relate. "I know how it feels to be taken advantage of by Gagasi FM. I was approached by one of the employees at the station in 2020 to do a show every Monday. I was approached because I was hosting men's space on Twitter called Dear Black Men, Are You OK?" she said. "I created a platform where black men opened up about their emotional wounds, pains, traumas, and challenges without the fear of being judged. The employee suggested we take it to a bigger platform and give it a Zulu name instead, hence the show name Indoda Ayikhali," she added. She served for six months and said the show grew enormously and became top of the station, based on stats. "However, I was erased like a dysfunctional pen and was told management wanted a Zulu-speaking person who's based in KZN as the station is a Zulu-speaking station, so my services were no longer needed," Laura said. "Didn't they know that when I started the show from the ground? When I captured listeners. When I gave free coaching sessions to their listeners to help them with their challenges" All this happened because I asked to be compensated for my efforts as I had been with the show for six months and had proven myself. The worst part I was told via a mere WhatsApp message by the show's producer named Kwazi. I wanted to put in a fight but was advised to let it go. I understand how Penny Ntuli feels." Gagasi FM management has not responded to the allegations.
