They are not chuffed at all. Their debit orders have bounced and are in arrears. Staff members at Ambitiouz Entertainment have vacated the building after not being paid their salaries for the past three months.
GATVOL!
They say they have been quiet for some time, hoping to protect the dwindling reputation of Ambitiouz Entertainment, but they have had enough! A staff member currently employed by the CEO and boss of the label, Kgosi Mahumapelo who manages over 10 artists says that he is frustrated with the treatment. "This is not on," he says. "The guy hasn’t paid us for a few months now and we decided to down tools." The employee says that "things were good in the beginning" and they were earning relatively okay. "Trouble started when artists started leaving. Kgosi is struggling to get booking for his artists, certain people are getting paid, and not everyone," he says.
FURIOUS
Two staff members who do not wish to be named have taken Kgosi to the CCMA. One of the staff members tells ZiMoja that, "the way he has handled his money issues has not been transparent. He needs to close down the company or liquidate it," he says. "He owes a lot of us, and it’s not just one month’s pay. I’m planning to take legal action. I’ve met up with a consultant from the CCMA." The former staff member says that Ambitiouz has been struggling to make ends meet. "As a label, they are not making money. He is relying on a few artists to keep the business afloat, but things are looking bad." The office situated in Rosebank, Johannesburg is said to be "empty" the staff member says. "Noone is going to the office. We have decided to down tools. We can’t afford money for transport, and rent and we are hustling on the side."
ARTISTS LEAVING
Not long ago, ZiMoja reported that artists have also been leaving the label due to "unscrupulous contracts" and alleged exploitation. Last month, singer S’Villa announced that he was leaving the label. Blaq Diamond also filed an urgent court application against the label for taking down their music from digital platforms following a fallout. Not long before, the label was at war with their former artist and Lesotho-born rapper Malome Vector, real name Bokang Malule over a song titled Ya Costa. Malome Vector is now taking Ambitiouz Entertainment to court over his clearance. Malome left because he felt neglected and not recognised by the company as they kept fighting Intaba YaseDubai and Blaq Diamond. The company also lost Saudi, B3ncmarq, Miss Pru, City Lyts, Amanda Black, Lunatic Beat, Sjava, and Fifi Cooper to name a few. Ambitiouz Entertainment’s label boss has not been available for comment. The CEO of Ambitiouz Entertainment was not available for comment at the time of publishing.
