AmaZulu striker Bongi Ntuli has died. The player died after a short illness at a Pietermaritzburg hospital today, the club confirmed this afternoon. The 32-year-old Ntuli was married to club CEO Sinenhlanhla "Sne" Zungu. Sinenhlanhla who is popularly known as Sne, is the daughter of AmaZulu President and prominent businessman Sandile Zungu.
In a statement, the team said: "It is with a very heavy heart that we inform you of the passing of our beloved centre-forward and loyal servant, Bonginkosi Ntuli. Ntuli was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, which metastasized and ultimately led to his death at the Midlands Medical Centre Private Hospital in Pietermaritzburg this afternoon," The club requested that privacy and patience be granted to his family and friends as they come to terms with his passing. Last month, ZiMoja reported that Ntuli fell ill and was admitted to Netcare Umhlanga hospital after vomiting blood and then later transferred to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital for surgery.
Ntuli married Sne, a few months ago in a traditional wedding followed by a white wedding in September at the bride's family wedding venue named Zunguness in the Midlands. The couple had also planned to go on honeymoon before Ntuli got sick. The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Lamontville Golden Arrows striker, was once selected to play for Bafana Bafana by the then coach Shakes Mashaba in June 2015. But he was not selected to make his international debut. Ntuli also played for the now defunct North West-based team, Platinum Stars between 2015 and 2018. The Zungu's had been grooming Ntuli to take over as an administrator in Usuthu. A source said they were waiting for the current 2022/2023 DStv Premiership campaign to wind up in May next year for Ntuli to take up his position as an administrator in the team.
