After his legal woes which saw him being arrested for allegedly assaulting his estranged girlfriend, Thuli Phongolo, DJ is back to claim the festive season. DJ Maphorisa has released a sneak peak of his new song, featuring award-winning maskandi heavyweights Shwi Nomtekhala, who released a monster hit Ngafa, more than a decade ago.

In the new track, he features the maskandi duo, Dubby, Chley. DJ Maphorisa and his right hand man, Kabza and Shwi noMtekhala have worked together before on the maskandi duo’s hit song Ngafa - Shwi noMtekhala Mix.

HE BROUGHT THEM BACK TOGETHER

Maphorisa’s fans are in for a treat this coming festive season - judging from the snippets of the video of the track he posted on Facebook on Thursday night. On the video, DJ Maphorisa and Shwi noMtekhala are seen dancing to the new track, while enjoying some bev as well.

According to a source close to the situation the Good Samaritian is none other than Maphorisa, who brought them back together. It is unclear whether the two will give their fans another Maskandi album anytime soon. "This is a huge progress because they never used to breathe the same air. Being in the same room again and dancing is a big deal," adds the source.

GOING THEIR SEPARATE WAYS

Shwi NoMtekhala, went their separate ways after two decades of producing hit songs. Their squabbles started 2021 after releasing the new album, Wangikhulisa Umama, when Mtekhala questioned the manner in which their then manager Bongani Manyathi handled business. Shwi sided with Bongani and while Mtekhala and dancers stepped back, saying they would return when he was fired. According to reports mediation by their families also failed. The pair went their separate ways releasing different projects. But according to the source, they have realised that they work better together and decided to bury their hatchet. When called, the pair declined to comment.
