Actor Siyabonga Shibe makes empty promises

Actor Zakhele Shibe made empty promises to young people with big dreams

Actor Siyabonga Shibe has put the lives of young filmmakers in jeopardy. Nqobile Mvuyane, Nothile Mvelase and Mbali Mlotshwa are among four filmmakers who were chosen for bursaries to study at Joburg?s premier film school, AFDA.

EMPTY PROMISES

They were part of students chosen last year by Shibe's Foundation called Dima Productions. But their dreams were quickly crushed after Shibe failed to pay their school fees mid-year. While other students found other means of payment to avoid dropping out of the film school, unfortunately others were forced to quit. The students owe over R150 000 each to the institution.

DISAPPOINTED AT SHIBE

Speaking to ZiMoja, the students said they were disappointed at the former Yizo Yizo actor for not delivering on his promises. According to the students, Shibe started by avoiding their calls and he eventually told them to stop calling him when they wanted to know whether he would pay for their fees. They are now back to square one and not studying anymore. "We are busy applying for other bursaries. To make things worse, we can't go back to the very same school because we owe the institution," said one student.

His manager, Nomfundo Shibe, said he is currently working out of town. "I will only know the way forward regarding this matter when he returns home. We have not discussed the bursary details yet," she said.
