The African National Congress (ANC) has suspended its treasurer Mandla Msibi after he allegedly attempted to sabotage the party's 112 birthday celebrations in Mbombela, Mpumalanga. Msibi who is also the province's Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC has been referred to the provincial disciplinary committee with two other party members.
Msibi allegedly tried to stop supporters from attending the annual 8 January statement as well as the party's birthday rally celebrations. His behaviour is said to have been in contravention with ANC's constitution, which is a punishable offense. ANC Mpumalanga spokesperson Sam Masango said, "When there is a suspension, you allow the organisation space, we allow you space as well to do the necessary consultation. We encourage comrades to then respect these processes, they are part of helping the comrades to understand what other challenges the organisation has detected in regard to organisational obligations."
The ANC's provincial secretary Muzi Chirwa confirmed that three of their members were facing disciplinary action from the party. "In as far as we are concerned as the ANC, disciplinary action within the party is politically educative in nature as we allow due processes to take place fairly." He said by so doing the party intends to restore it's dignity. "There will be a presenter who is going to present all the charges to the comrades involved and then they will be given a chance to justify themselves and clarify their behaviour. The members are facing different charges for three scenarios that allegedly brought the party into disrepute."
