ActionSA is gunning for the City of Johannesburg Member of Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Economic Development ,Nomoya Mnisi, over allegations of corruption. ActionSA opened a corruption case against Mnisi for allegedly ordering the former Joburg Property Company (JPC) acting chief financial officer (CFO) Sipho Mzobe to make a payment of R867 482 00, to the ANC Youth League. This was for an event hosted at the Cedar Woods in Sandton, from 7 to 9 July 2023.
STALLING APPOINTING CFO
When opening the case at the Hillbrow, on Tuesday, ActionSA Joburg Caucus leader Nobuhle Mthembu alleged that Mnisi ordered Mzobe to settle an invoice for an amount close to a million to the ANCYL in Johannesburg. "ActionSA commends the former CFO who bluntly refused to abide by this irregular request. It is further being alleged that the MMC stalled the appointment of a permanent CFO to ensure that her preferred candidate can occupy the position," Mthembu said. She said ActionSA stands to defend the law against corruption. "As a party that stands by the rule of law and ethical leadership, ActionSA believes MMC Mnisi should be held accountable for the alleged irregular instruction. "
CORRUPT RELATIONSHIP
She added that the ANC and Freedom Fighters (EFF) relationship is corrupt. "These allegations further support our view that the ANC-EFF have always sought to gain access to the city’s coffers in order to enrich themselves and their political parties ahead of the 2024 elections. The allegations also supports our view that it is imperative that the coalition and mayor Kabelo Gwamanda need to be removed to ensure that residents’ money isn’t abused for personal gain." She said the party will continue to monitor investigations into Mnisi and pursue all avenues, including through motions in council, to ensure that accountability is achieved. "As a constructive opposition, we will keep the ANC-EFF coalition accountable to ensure that the needs of residents are always placed first." Mthembu was appointed the new caucus leader last month after Funzi Ngobeni left the post.
